Why is an inverter warranty useful?

  • The manufacturer warranty usually only covers the first five years of operation.

  • When you have a warranty, you don't have to save up for repairs or exchanges.
  • With a warranty extension, you'll get a repair, a replacement inverter or a new one in case of damage.

Frequently asked questions about warranty extensions

An inverter warranty is a kind of inverter insurance. With a warranty, you can secure the functionality of your inverter beyond the manufacturer's warranty. With a manufacturer-independent warranty, you can also make a claim when the manufacturer has gone bankrupt. For a duration of up to 20 years.

The best time to conclude a warranty extension is within the warranty period of the manufacturer. You can make a smooth transition from for example the SMA warranty to a manufacturer-independent inverter warranty. But it is also possible to conclude a warranty for devices of up to 10 years old.

This security is manufacturer-independent. The SMA warranty extension for example offers first-class protection, but it is limited to SMA products. When you opt for a manufacturer-independent product, you can switch to a more innovative manufacturer without losing your security. When you have multiple systems from different manufacturers, you can administer your warranties centrally. You'll have one contact for all systems and devices.

You can conclude a warranty for your inverter at any time, as long as the device is not more than 10 years old. But damages can only be claimed after the warranty enters into force.

In general, the warranty extension enters into force when the contract is signed or when the manufacturer warranty expires. Depending on the duration of the contract though, there can be waiting periods between 3 and 6 months.

This is fully up to you. You can conclude a flexible warranty which can be extended yearly, or you can chose a duration of 5, 10 or 20 years.

In general, only the fixed components of the device are secured. External components like data loggers or ripple control receivers are excluded. Furthermore, only those damages are taken over that result from aging or interior of the inverter. Damages from external circumstances, like lightning, overvoltage or moisture ingress, aren't taken on and are usually part of a solar insurance.

An inverter warranty takes on repair costs affecting the functionality of the inverter. In these cases, the costs for an inverter repair or a replacement are taken over. The costs for the technician and the travel costs are also included.

As soon as you get notice of a problem with your inverter, you should report with the warrantor. After a quick check, the installer can take care of the damage. When you don't have a service provider available, the warrantor can help you find one.
