The Wireless Signal Transmitter enables real-time connectivity and seamless radio communication between the Smart Meter and the inverter, eliminating the need for traditional RS485 cabling.


Each package includes a pre-paired transmitter and receiver, making installation fast and effortless.

With a transmission range of up to 800 meters in open environments, the system ensures stable, long-distance connectivity. Operating on the reliable 868 MHz frequency, the transducer delivers strong performance even in demanding conditions.

 

This Plug-and-Play solution is factory-paired and ready to use straight out of the box. Maximum range is achieved in line-of-sight conditions, when the two antennas can “see” each other without obstacles, and there is a clear, unobstructed visibility between the two antennas. For cases where this is not possible, we can provide a 10-meter extension cable that can be used to lead the antennas to the roof, to the side of the building, to a place where the two antennas can communicate clearly.

When should you use a wireless RS485 bridge or why do you need the RS485 Signal Transducer on radio?

 

This device is an excellent solution for places where cable connection is not possible or difficult. Or it would simply not be aesthetically pleasing.

A concrete example is the case when you need to connect a remote Modbus device outdoors. Whether you would install the wiring on a pole or underground, you would need special wiring, not to mention cable pulling or digging.

 

The Levtech Wireless RS485 Bridge is useful when:

1. The Smart Meter and inverter are far apart

If the Smart Meter is installed near the electrical distribution board while the inverter is located elsewhere, installing a new RS485 cable can be inconvenient.

The wireless bridge allows the two devices to communicate without running a long physical RS485 cable.

2. There is no suitable cable route

Sometimes the problem is not the distance but the building itself.

Walls, floors, concrete structures, roads, yards or existing installations can make cable installation difficult or expensive.

3. You need to avoid drilling or excavation

For some installations, routing a new cable means drilling through walls or running cables underground.

A wireless RS485 connection can eliminate this work when radio communication conditions are suitable.

4. The RS485 cable would be visually undesirable

In residential, commercial and architectural installations, running a visible communication cable may not be desirable.

5. You need to connect equipment in separate locations

The wireless RS485 bridge can be used where two RS485 devices are installed in different locations and a suitable radio path can be established.

 

Why 868 MHz?

The system operates in the 868 MHz radio band, which is widely used for industrial and wireless communication applications in Europe.

Compared with higher-frequency wireless technologies such as 2.4 GHz Wi-Fi, 868 MHz radio can be advantageous for certain long-range applications because lower-frequency radio signals generally have different propagation characteristics and can perform well over longer distances and through some obstacles.

However, the actual range depends on the installation environment.

For the most reliable communication, the antennas should have a clear line of sight whenever possible.

 

How does the wireless RS485 bridge work?

The principle is simple:

Smart Meter ? RS485 ? Levtech transmitter ? 868 MHz wireless link ? Levtech receiver ? RS485 ? inverter

The Levtech system transfers the RS485 communication wirelessly between the two devices.

The wireless bridge does not replace the Smart Meter or inverter and does not process the meter data in the cloud. Its purpose is to replace the physical RS485 communication path with a radio connection.

This makes it particularly useful when the Smart Meter and inverter cannot be conveniently connected with a cable.

Available transmission ranges

The Levtech Wireless RS485 Bridge is available in two versions: 400 m for larger residential installations and light industrial applications and 800 m for industrial installations and longer-distance connections.

The specified distance is a maximum open-area transmission range. Actual performance depends on the environment, antenna position, building construction, interference and other radio conditions.

 

Important: line of sight

The best results are achieved when the two antennas have a clear line of sight.

If the Smart Meter and inverter are separated by a building, reinforced concrete wall or another significant obstacle, the antennas may need to be relocated.

For difficult installations, a 10-meter antenna extension cable can be used to move an antenna to a more suitable position, such as a roof, exterior wall or another location with better radio visibility.

 

Plug-and-play installation

The wireless transmitter and receiver are supplied as a factory-paired set.

For compatible preconfigured applications, this significantly simplifies installation: connect the RS485 interfaces and power supplies, position the antennas correctly, and establish the wireless link.

For applications requiring communication parameter changes, the RS485 communication parameters can be configured according to the connected equipment.

The device supports configurable:

  • Baud rate
  • Parity
  • Stop bits
  • Device address / communication parameters where applicable

For configuration, a computer and USB-to-RS485 converter can be used.
